9ct yellow gold, lapis lazuli, topaz, peacock pearl and porcelain butterfly earrings
The one-of-a-kind Butterfly Earrings hail from the designer’s Lost & Found collection which takes its inspiration from the Victorian curiosity cabinet, the art of Joseph Cornell and the ‘found’ object.
Here, a beautiful porcelain butterfly charm (purchased by Tessa at a craft market) has been transformed into a pair of really unique earrings through creative reconstruction and embellishment. Careful consideration has been given to which gemstones to pair with the butterfly in order to best imitate its natural colouring and patterns. Lapis lazuli beads are used to really highlight the rich denim tones in the wings, whilst the darker peacock pearls and faceted topaz stones bring richness and life to the thorax and edges of the butterfly form. This careful curation of gemstones with found objects is one of Tessa’s great loves: she loves the challenge of making timeless, beautiful jewellery from incongruous objects .
For those who love mismatching earrings, statement earrings, narrative-inspired jewellery, nature, insects or specifically butterflies, these earrings couldn’t be more perfect. They are also ideal ‘all-day’ earrings as they pair just as well with denim and casual wear as they do with a jewel-toned dress and sapphire jewellery. They are also extremely lightweight, due to their size and chosen materials, making them the ideal partner for those who like to wear their jewellery from dawn to dusk and not worry about a costume change for dinner.
