18ct yellow gold vermeil, black rhodium, brass, acrylic and onyx chain necklace
Named after Jupiter Island in Florida, this monochrome beauty is made from acrylic links and onyx beads, set together using vermeil pins and a rhodium plated clasp. Structural and bold, its neutral palette makes it a very easy accessory to wear, suiting everything from a board room to an Italian piazza on holiday. Pair with our onyx Orbit Earrings and Pharaoh Ring for maximum impact.
The Jupiter Necklace forms part of our Plastic Fantastic jewellery collection, where the material plastic sits centre stage. Set in 1950s Florida, the collection explores how mid-century America saw a plastic boom as home industries battled to meet an ever-expanding demand for consumer goods, including costume jewellery. Plastic became a really popular material to work with as it was considered novel and free from pre-conceptions regarding its use.
Whilst plastic is not commonly associated with fine jewellery, we hope to show that this material can be used in sustainable and innovative ways by reusing old plastic mounts or links to create beautiful, timeless jewels. Our technique of setting precious gemstones into resin (as seen in our American Sweetheart Earrings) is – as far as we are aware – completely unique and the result of two year’s experimentation leading up to this launch.
