Designer's Notes +

As the name suggests, the Cuckoo Nest Earrings draw their inspiration from the songbirds’ nests that richly adorn even the smallest of gardens. Here, the swirling, interlocking forms of the verdigris jacket playfully recreate a twig-like nest, whilst the smooth white agate bead at its heart is of course representative of the laid egg.

The Cuckoo Nest Earrings hail from our Once Upon a Time in My Secret Garden jewellery collection. Inspired by the landscaped gardens of William Kent and Capability Brown, the exotic menagerie’s of George Stubbs and Jacques-Laurent Agasse, and the writings of William Shakespeare, Phillip Pullman, Lewis Carrol and Frances Hodgson Burnett (amongst others), this collection aims to bring to life the weird and wonderful flowers and creatures that would reside in Tessa’s imagined garden.

The use of verdigris in this collection is particularly intentional. This unique ‘weathered’ finish makes the pieces look as though they have been lost in a garden for generations, like relics from a by-gone era. The patina’s rustic, green hue also represents plant life in both in colour and in texture. Up close, the verdigris finish takes on the appearance of organic moss growing on fallen logs or an ancient dry-stone wall. A complimentary, five-tone palette of gold, gunmetal grey, pure white, sunflower yellow and black sit alongside the green verdigris, keeping the collection stylised in look and feel, as many English gardens once were.
