BEHIND THE LENSE
On a summer’s day in Hackney, team TP London gathered in a white box studio to shoot the campaign images for the forthcoming Predator/Prey collection. The brief was to produce a series of images that explored the theme of ‘conscious’ jewellery: the power-play or symbiotic relationship existing between the animate and inanimate, the wearer and the jewellery.
Visual inspiration was drawn from the Cubists and Surrealists of the twentieth-century, as well as the photographer Cecil Beaton, who like the European avant gardes had explored the idea of perspective, visual reality and the surreal in his series of bell jar photographs.
Glass prisms, perspex boxes and a monochrome palette were used to convey a sense of the dreamlike, the distorted or the unreal. Many of the photographs aimed to depict the model solely in a reflection; others saw her face fractured in parts by the prism yet the wasp untouched.
