The mythological Alchemist was part wizard, part chemist, whose aim was to find the Philosopher’s Stone, work out how to turn base ingredients into precious metals, and create a recipe for Eternal Youth that could guarantee immortality and an everlasting firm face.

We know now that none of their cooked-up potions came to very much, but that doesn’t stop us carrying around our own magic formula of choice.

The history of potions in jewellery is actually quite a long one. The Ancient Egyptians started the trend by wearing beads dipped in aromatic pastes. The twelfth century saw gold accessories dipped in musk; a few hundred years later, around 1600, the first portable perfume bottle necklaces emerged. By the nineteenth century, perfume pendants were being carved from gemstones, adorned with more gemstones, and playing host to all sorts of scented balms and liquids.

The Alchemist Necklace is a modern-day interpretation of the portable perfume bottle and the world of magic-making alchemy.
