These statement blue earrings adopt a new and innovative method of gemstone setting to create the drops. Using resin, the lapis lazuli cabochons are placed in a round mould, covered in this liquid material and left to harden over several days. The result is a mesmerising symphony of layered gemstones, each one suspended in a transparent cage, allowing the wearer to appreciate the full 360 degree form of the gemstones without any visual obstruction from the normal metal casing. Setting the gemstones in resin also allows them to be layered, creating interesting forms and negative spaces as they overlap one another. When the light passes through these earrings the overall effect is like stained glass – the blue and gold tones of the lapis lazuli come to life like magical pops of colour.

Lapis lazuli is a deep-blue metamorphic rock, prized since antiquity for its intense colour. Traditionally from Afghanistan, this semi-precious stone was used in the Middle Ages as the material pigment for ultramarine, one of the finest and most expensive paints of all time. Lapis lazuli is also unusual in that it is a rock composed of various minerals, rather than made from a single mineral. Its components include sodalite, calcite and pyrite, the latter being responsible for the gold flecks found dispersed through the stone.

Our Palm Beach Earrings have been showcased online by such editors as @melaniegrant of The Economist 1843 and @velvet_castle, and featured in such publications as Sphere Magazine.
